Big Bus Tour – Part 2, Or, Khan Murjan Souq

The Big Bus tour took us to Wafi, as I wrote in Part 1, but it’s a mall I have been to 101 times before.  It’s where the hat type shop ‘Oasis’ is located so not only have I shopped there, I have modeled there too!  Yep, it was as strange to do it as to read the words that I have actually modeled!!!

Wafi also boasts an amazing selection of restaurants so I’ve visited a fair few of those.  Then, on top of that, they had a Rooftop Movies series one year.  I don’t know if they still do it but it was lovely at the time!

So given I have been here so often, imagine when I discovered there was a whole section that I had never heard of! Continue reading

Big Bus Tour – Part 1

The Big Bus Tour is something Mum has wanted to do on each of her trips, but we just have never had time.  Thankfully I work for an entirely more reasonable firm now than when I arrived (let’s not even mention my Year From Hell employment experience!), and so I was able to take a week off and plan things!

First up on the list was this tour.  There are currently two in operation in Dubai.  The original Big Bus tour and the newer City Sightseeing bus tour.  They are much of a muchness really.  We in the end went with Big Bus as they have more buses so less wait time if we wanted to get off for a while.

Adventuring again!

Friendship, reflection and self realisation

In the last few years I have taken a number of hits in regards to friendships.  People who I thought were very good friends have disappeared.  It has hurt, but I have made peace with it.

However, it all came up again this morning when I discovered that someone had blocked me from their social media accounts, except Facebook which they had simply put me on ‘restricted’.  While I knew we weren’t close friends any more, I didn’t think that we were in that place.

I was really upset, actually.  I know it’s a bit daft but I think it was just the straw that broke the camel’s back.   Continue reading

Bay Square

There is a little known area behind Downtown called Bay Square.  It is technically Business Bay but it is, in my mind, too far from the main area to count!

It isn’t going to be little known for much longer though as there is a Double Tree by Hilton that is just open, and they are actively working to get some of the Downtown Crowd to come by with events like The Laughter Factory, daily happy hours, and a Pizza Express Live soon opening.

Located just behind South Ridge, it isn’t far to go for a pizza and glass of wine, so I rather suspect this quiet little office and cafe area is going to become very busy. Continue reading

New Year’s Eve, 2017

When in Dubai for New Year celebrations, there is only one thing you should do… you should see the fireworks at the Burj Khalifa.  Sadly this year they announced that the fireworks were cancelled and were being replaced with a light and lazer show.

I cannot tell you how disappointed I was.  The only other time I have seen it there was a fire at the Address and half the fireworks were covered by the black smoke billowing from the burning building.

I was even more disappointed for Mum who would have never seen a firework display of that magnitude before. Continue reading

The Spectacular ‘La Perle’

Wow, wow and wow again!

After a terribly long and hard day of tanning, Mum and I got all prettied up and headed out to see the new-ish extravaganza written, designed and choreographed solely for Dubai.  It is literally the only place you will ever see this in the world.

Seeing La Perle is an absolute must.

“Dragone” is Franco Dragone, the genius creative director.

Pyongyang Okryu-Gwan – Or, the North Korean Restaurant in Dubai!

Yep, that’s right.  There is a North Korean restaurant in Dubai and we decided to try it!

As you may have worked out by now, Mummy and I do like a little bit of food sampling from time to time.  Mostly we stick to things we know we like, but every now and again we hear about something fairly random that peaks our interest.

One of my coworkers had recently gone to Pyongyang Okryu-Gwan for dinner and had said some very positive things about it, so when I was making our itinerary/food tour guide, I had to include it.  I never heard about the food, but the description of the live cabaret was more than enough to make me want to see more!
